#039;Hounds play Rochester

Dave Meyer tossed a one-hit complete-game shutout and Matt Cano connected for a home run in the Austin Greyhounds' 7-0 win over Owatonna in the opening round of Section 2B playoffs Sunday night at Marcusen Park.

Meyer struck out 11 and walked one in his fourth one-hitter of the season. Cano, the 'Hounds' third baseman, had a double in addition to his home run.

The Greyhounds (31-17) play tonight at Mayo Field against the Southern Minny League champion Rochester Royals (24-7) at 7:30 p.m. The two teams split their regular-season meetings, with Austin winning 3-2 and Rochester taking a 3-1 decision.

The Royals routed Albert Lea on Sunday night, 9-1, to move into the Section finals against Austin. Owatonna and Albert Lea will play Thursday night, and the winner will face the loser between Austin and Rochester.

The Hayfield/Austin Athletics will continue their Class C postseason playoffs with a trip to Cannon Falls tonight at 8 p.m. The A's (15-20) lost twice to the host Bears during the regular season, including a 4-0 defeat in the most recent meetind during the Cannon Falls Classic eight-team tournament in mid-July.

The A's lost 10-6 to Mongomery in the opening round of Section 4C amateur baseball action, but rebounded by eliminating Belle Plaine with a 4-3 come-from-behind victory last Friday night at Marcusen Park. Cannon Falls and Belle Plaine are both defending Class C State Tournament teams.

Cannon Falls lost to Lonsdale in the section semifinals, 4-2, and Montgomery defeated Hampton 3-1. Montgomery and Lonsdale are both section qualifiers from the Dakota, Rice, Scott League White Division, which Lonsdale won by one game over Montgomery.

The Hayfield/Austin A's will need four more wins to qualify for the state tournament.
