Hertha Frieda Holtan, 84

Hertha Frieda Holtan, 84, of Hayfield, died Saturday, June 1, 2002, at Fieldcrest Care Center.

She was born Dec. 15, 1917, in rural Dexter, to Carl and Laura (Rufledt) Glienke. She attended rural Mower County schools.

On June 15, 1940, she married Oscar Holtan at the Trinity Lutheran Church parsonage in Hayfield.

The couple farmed in Vernon Township until 1964, when they moved to Hayfield.

Hertha was employed at the Kahler Corporation Model Laundry in Rochester for 24 years, retiring in 1983.

Survivors include daughters and son-in-law, Eileen Holtan, Minneapolis; Lucille and Richard Bernard, Port St. Lucie, Fla.; son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Linda Holtan, Hayfield; two grandsons; sister-in-law, Joyce Holtan, Coeur d' Alene, Idaho; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar, in 1997; parents; brother, Gerhardt Glienke.

Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, June 4, 2002, at the funeral home and one hour before the service at the church on Wednesday.

Service: 2 p.m., Wednesday, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hayfield with Reverend Stephan Sandness officiating.

Interment: Fairview Cemetery in Hayfield, Minnesota.

Bruce E. "Digger" Hall, 80

Bruce E. "Digger" Hall, 80, formerly of Austin, died Friday, May 31, 2002.

He was born Feb. 14, 1922, in Austin.

He was a Navy veteran of World War II and was employed by Mueller-Bies Funeral Home for 21 years.

Survivors include sons, Gary (Maggie); Brian (Sandy); daughter, Wendy; grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Merle Vokaty.

Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, June 4, 2002, at the funeral home.

Service: 11 a.m., Wednesday, at the funeral home.

Interment: National Cemetery.
