A trio of small-school girls' golfers hit the links for the first round of the Class A State Tournament today, led by LeRoy-Ostrander senior Erin Dohlman. Dohlman will conclude her final season with her third consecutive trip to the state tournament. She teed off on the back nine at 11:40 a.m. today on The Sanctuary at the Izatys Golf and Yacht Club near Onamia.
Hayfield senior Kristen Frydenlund and Blooming Prairie freshman Calla Swenson both qualified for the state meet as well. Frydenlund's foursome was one of the first groups off the first tee this morning at 9:50 a.m. Swenson is one of two freshman in the 11 a.m. group off the 10th tee.
In Class A, all three girls' co-champions from last season -- Section 1 champion Staci Smoot of Rochester Lourdes, Jackie Beste of Sauk Centre, and Mary Hasselberg of Staples-Motley -- return to this year's tournament. Other returning top-10 finishers are: Jackie Heslop of Pequot Lakes (4), Sarah Butler of Roseau (6), Gabe VanDyk and Melissa Kopp of Luverne and Anna Stocker of Marshall School, Duluth, (7), and Maureen Harwick of Warroad (10).
