Hayfield senior Kristen Frydenlund leads the local field after the first round of the Class A Girls' State Golf Tournament at Izatys Golf and Yacht Club near Onamia.

Frydenlund, who narrowly missed qualifying for state as a junior, made the most of her first round with an 18-hole score of 86. She is tied for 20th overall heading into today's second round. Frydenlund teed off at 9:30 a.m. on The Sanctuary course for the final 18 holes.

Blooming Prairie freshman Calla Swenson shot a 93 in the first day, standing at 43rd in the field of 88 individuals, and LeRoy-Ostrander senior Erin Dohlman is in a three-way tie for 53rd with a 96.

Section 1A champion Staci Smoot -- who edged Dohlman by three strokes for the regional title -- is tied for second overall.
