Canoe float takes place this weekend

With summertime fun comes festivals, especially in our region.

And Adams kicks off the festivities, with this weekend's Dairy Days celebration.

But there's also a few other items that may be of interest to those seeking adventure.

On Saturday and Sunday, there will be a canoe float on the Cedar River from Riverbend Park in Austin to Halvorson Park in St. Ansgar. For information, call Jim or Laura Hughes at (641) 228-7855 or Roger Anhalt at (319) 352-1666.

There will also be a Cancer Benefit Dance, Auction and Bake Sale from 7:30 p.m. to midnight Saturday at the Blooming Prairie Servicemen's Club.

For those seeking to sharpen their literary skills, there will be a writer's workshop from 9:30 a.m. to noon at the Austin Public Library. To register, call 433-2391, ext. 305.

And those who want to tee it up can participate in the Lyle Cancer Telethon Golf Fun Day, which takes placed Saturday at 2 p.m. at Meadow Greens Golf Course, just north of Austin. For information, call Jody Orth at 325-2212.
