Martha Tuinder, 90

Martha Tuinder, 90, of Austin, died Thursday, May 16, 2002, at Sacred Heart Care Center.

She was born July 18, 1911, in Grundy Center, Iowa, to Henry and Henrietta (Meffert) Schipper.

On Aug. 30, 1930, she married Jacob G. Tuinder in Austin.

She was a homemaker who enjoyed camping, fishing, bowling, and being with her family and grandchildren.

Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Tena and Johnnie Jansen, Brownsdale; Donna and Lincoln Cole, Austin; son and daughter-in-law, Jacob Jr. and Linda Tuinder, Wilmer, Ala.; 12 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers, sisters, one grandchild, two great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m., today, May 19, 2002, at the funeral home and one hour before the service at the church on Monday.

Service: 11 a.m., Monday, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with Pastor Stephen Kurtzahn officiating.

Rose Amelia Dalquist, 86

Rose Amelia Dalquist, 86, of Rochester, formerly of Austin, died Friday, May 17, 2002 at Maple Manor Nursing Home in Rochester.

She was born February 5, 1916, in Waltham Township, the daughter of Henry and Amelia (Jahnke) Wollenberg.

She received her education in a country school near her home.

She worked as a housekeeper for area families.

On November 18, 1937, she was married to John William Dalquist in Austin.

They made their home in Austin where she was member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church.

She moved to Rochester, after her husband's death, where she worked in the statistic office at the Mayo Clinic from 1971 to 1981.

While living in Rochester, she was a member of VFW Post 1215 Women's Auxiliary.

In July of 1991, she moved to Maple Manor Nursing Home in Rochester.

Survivors include sons William (Sandra) Dalquist, Rochester, Robert (Ruth) Dalquist, Charlotte, N.C. and Donald Dalquist, Rochester; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Anna Juhnke, Austin; sister-in-law, Margaret Paulson, Chatfield, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one great-grandchild, two brothers and six sisters.

Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m., Monday, May 20, 2002, at Worlein Funeral Home and for one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.

Service: 1 p.m., Tuesday, at the Worlein Funeral Home Chapel.

Interment: Oakwood Cemetery.

Evelyn &uot;Myrtella&uot; Langrock, 100

Evelyn &uot;Myrtella&uot; Langrock, 100, of Toeterville, Iowa, died Friday, May 17, 2002, at the Good Samaritan Center in St. Ansgar, Iowa.

She was born on Feb. 16, 1902, to Christopher and Anna (Torgeson) Sampson.

She attended school at the Pinehurst School and in Lyle.

On October 20, 1926, she was married to Fred Daniel Langrock of Toeterville.

She organized the Toeterville Church Band.

Besides the piano, her other interests were being a homemaker and working with wood.

Survivors include daughters Avis (Leo) Hanson, St. Ansgar, Iowa, Audrey Carroll, Austin; sons Fred Langrock, Toeterville, Iowa, David (Linda) Langrock, Davenport, Iowa; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, one brother and son-in-law Donovan Carroll.

Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 21, 2002, at the funeral home and one hour before services at the church.

Service: 11 a.m., Wednesday, at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Toeterville, Iowa, with the Dr. Elaine Siemsen officiating.

Interment: St. Peter Cemetery, Toeterville.

Funeral Home: Champion – Bucheit Funeral Home, Osage, Iowa.

Memorials: To St. Peter Lutheran Church or The Six Mile Grove Lutheran Church.

David E. Thompson, 74

David E. Thompson, 74, of Staples, Minn., formerly of Austin, died Tuesday, May 14, 2002 at Greater Staples Hospital.

He was born October 11, 1927, in Austin to Melvin and Alice (Albright) Thompson.

He grew up and attended school in Austin.

From 1946-1941 he was a member of the Merchant Marines.

After his service in the Merchant Marines he returned to Austin and worked as a dry cleaner.

In 1968, he moved to Minneapolis and was a manager of a dry cleaning business until his retirement in 1998.

In 1999, he moved to Staples, Minn.

Survivors include wife, Billie Thompson, Staples, Minn,; son Steven (Anne) Thompson, Rochester; brothers, Glenn (Margaret) Thompson, Rochester, Benny Thompson, Austin, Ronald (Lorene) Thompson, Fla., Lowell (Mary) Thompson, Rochester, Daniel (Carol) Thompson, Fairfax; sisters, Wanda (Carstin) Overby, Austin, Nancy (Vernon) Tripp, Salt Lake City, Utah, Sandra (Jack) Petersen, Albert Lea, Judith (Darwin) Moon, Wanamingo; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Richard Thompson; sister, Theo Thompson.

Visitation: One hour before the service on Monday at the mortuary.

Service: 1 p.m., Monday, May 20, 2002, at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary Chapel with Bishop Robert Flatt officiating.

John R. Blomstrom, 61

John R. Blomstrom, 61, of Austin, died Wednesday, May 15, 2002 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester.

He was born in Kansas City, Missouri on June 10, 1940, the son of Carl and Florence (Wood) Blomstrom.

He graduated from high school in St. Louis Park, Minn.

He served in the U.S. Army in Germany and Vietnam for nearly 10 years where he received the Bronze Medal of Valor.

He was also in the Military Police and played with the Army Band. Following his service he attended the Berkeley College of Music where he played saxophone, clarinet and flute. He also attended Harvard University in Boston.

He married Christine Wright in 1979 in Owatonna.

He worked at McQuay International in Faribault for 17 years.

He enjoyed woodworking, amateur radio and the outdoors.

He was a member of the VFW Post #1216 in Austin.

Survivors include wife, Christine Blomstrom, Austin; son, Chad (Melanie) Blomstrom, Waseca; daughter, Melissa Blomstrom, Austin; brother-in-law, Richard (Shannon) Wright, Fayetteville, Ark.; niece, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation: 6-8 p.m., Monday, May 20, 2002, at the funeral home and

one hour before services Tuesday at the church.

Service: 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Owatonna with the Rev. Michael Tippett officiating.

Interment: Woodville Cemetery, Waseca.
