Kenneth Earl Wilson, 73

Kenneth Earl Wilson, 73, of Austin, died Saturday, July 6, 2002, at St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester.

He was born July 20, 1928, in Austin, to George and Mabel (Hanson) Wilson.

On March 12, 1954, he married Delores Heller at St. John's Lutheran Church in Austin, where the couple resided.

Kenny enjoyed all sports, playing the guitar and he was an artist. He was an amateur boxer and fought in Golden Gloves as well as in the Army.

He was a lifelong Austin resident and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1216.

Survivors include sons, Jack Wilson, Austin; Dan (Marsha) Wilson, Austin; Steve (Melissa) Wilson, Chaska; Larry (Connie) Wilson, Austin; daughters, Christine Wilson, Canon City, Colo.; Sherrie (Adam) Savko, Columbus, Ohio; Jennifer (Steve) Dammen, Austin; 14 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brothers, Doug (Irene) Wilson, Austin; Ralph Wilson, Austin; Fred (June) Wilson, Woodbury; sisters, Delores (Ray) Heimsness, Austin; Joyce Sloan, Grand Meadow.

He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; brothers, George and Curtis; sister, Eva Shatek.

Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m., today, July 9, 2002, at the funeral home and Wednesday at the church for one hour before the service.

Service: 1 p.m., Wednesday, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church with the Rev. Ron Barnett officiating. Casket bearers will be Dennis Shatek, Terry Heimsness, Mike Sloan, Larry Wilson, Al Wilson and Craig Jurgensen.

Interment: Oakwood Cemetery with military honors by VFW Post 1216 and American Legion Post 91.

Robert R. Rugg, 63

Robert R. Rugg, 63, of Sun City West, Ariz., died Wednesday, June 19, 2002.

Born in Austin, he was a graduate of Austin High School and a United States Air Force Veteran. He was also a retired Senior Customer Service Engineer for Bull HN Information Systems, Inc.

He loved his family, friends, golf, fishing and the Vikings.

Survivors include wife, Janice; daughters, Suzanne (Tom) Marsh; Cathryn Rugg; son, Richard (Heather) Rugg; six grandchildren; mother, Ena Rugg; brother, William (Bette) Rugg; sisters, LaVonne Elmer; Marilyn (Kermit) Mattson, Austin; Noel (Tom) Moore, Moorhead; brother-in-law, Darrell Crawford.

He was preceded in death by his father, Everett, and sister, M. Jayne Crawford.

Service: 10 a.m. memorial service, Saturday, July 13, 2002, at the Camino Del Sol Funeral Chapel in Sun City West, Ariz.

Interment: National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona in Phoenix, Ariz. with Military Honors.

Leslie "Jerome" Olson, 62

Leslie "Jerome" Olson, 62, of Austin, died Saturday, July 6, 2002, at his home.

He was born Aug. 2, 1939, in Harmony, to Bennie and Anna Viola (Storlie) Olson.

He attended school in Harmony and Austin, graduating from Austin High School in 1958.

Following graduation, he worked at Nelson's Market while attending Austin Vo-Tech.

In 1963, he entered the United States Air Force serving in England. After his discharge in 1967, he returned to Austin where he was employed at Streater Inc. in Albert Lea, retiring in 2000.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and woodworking.

He was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church.

Survivors include brothers, Burnell (Doloris) Olson, Lansing; Arlyn Olson, Denison, Texas; Donald (Doris) Olson, Austin; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother in infancy; sister-in-law, Shirley Olson.

Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, July 10, 2002, at the funeral home and Friday at the church for one hour before the service.

Service: 10:30 a.m., Thursday, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church with the Rev. Ron Barnett officiating.

Interment: Oakwood Cemetery with flag presentation by members of American Legion Post 91 and VFW Post 1216.

Marjorie S. Schaefer, 72

Marjorie S. Schaefer, 72, of Austin, died Thursday, July 4, 2002 at Prairie Manor Nursing Home, Blooming Prairie.

She was born April 6, 1930, in Waterville, to Charles and Irene (Hollinger) Kiewatt.

On April 7, 1951, she married Orin N. Schaefer at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Austin.

She was a homemaker, member of Queen of Angels Catholic Church and the National Catholic Society of Foresters.

She enjoyed cooking, baking, needlework, crafts, reading and spending time with family and friends.

Survivors include daughters, Ann (Dan) Lee, Austin; Karen (Tim) Davidson, Austin; son, Mark (Denise) Schaefer, Loves Park, Ill.; eight grandchildren; sisters, Kathleen (Charles) Perry, Rochester; Mary Groth, Rockford, Ill.

She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.

Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m., today, July 9, 2002, at the funeral home with a 4 p.m. CCW rosary and a 7 p.m. wake service and also from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

Service: 10 a.m., Wednesday, at Queen of Angels Catholic Church with Father William Becker officiating.

Interment: Fort Snelling National Cemetery.

O. Evelyn Gordon, 89

O. Evelyn Gordon, 89, of Carpenter, Iowa, died Wednesday, July 3, 2002, at the Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa.

She was born Feb. 28, 1913, in Montpelier, N.D., to Bendick and Hilda (Erickson) Holstad. She was baptized April 27, 1913, at Montpelier Lutheran Church and confirmed at Shell Rock Lutheran Church, Northwood, Iowa.

She graduated from Northwood High School in 1932 and taught in Hartland and Grove Township rural schools for five years.

On June 13, 1937, she married Roy Gordon at Deer Creek Lutheran Church, Carpenter, Iowa.

Evelyn was active in Deer Creek Lutheran Church for 65 years, a member of all the womens church groups, sang in the church choir and small groups, taught Sunday School and Bible School, held offices in womens' circle and aid, and was financial secretary.

She worked for 20 years at the Carpenter Post Office, serving as postmaster for eight years. While raising her family, she was a substitute teacher in the Carpenter Consolidated School District.

She was a historian, card player, crossword puzzler, fisherwoman and traveler and enjoyed friends and family.

Survivors include sons, Robert and Sharon Gordon, Spirit Lake, Iowa; Bruce and Carol Gordon, Grundy Center, Iowa; daughters, Mrs. John (Ruth) Rollefson, Ann Arbor, Mich.; Mrs. Ken (Marjean) Hoeg, Prior Lake; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; brother, Aldon Holstad, Glenville; sisters, Mrs. Jewel (Lillian) Thompson, Northwood, Iowa; Mrs. Curtis (Luella) Leidal, Northwood, Iowa; Mrs. Leon (Burnette) Sanderson, Glenville; Mrs. Max (Mildred) Patterson, St. Ansgar, Iowa; Mrs. Stan (Idena) Hagen, Plymouth; sister-in-law, Dorothy Holstad, Austin.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy; parents; brothers, Marvin and Irving Holstad; sister, Gilma Holstad and Julia Stumo.

Service: 1 p.m., Saturday, July 13, 2002, at the Deer Creek Lutheran Church, Carpenter, Iowa, with the Rev. Kathy Larson officiating.

Interment: Deer Creek Cemetery.

Kenneth Clair Jahnel, 80

Kenneth Clair Jahnel, 80, of Farmington, formerly of Austin, died Sunday, July 7, 2002, at St. Francis Hospital, Shakopee.

He was born Nov. 3, 1921, in New Haven, Iowa, to Edward and Caroline (Towle) Jahnel.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

On May 31, 1947, he married Bernice Hayes in Minneapolis.

He worked for Branif Aircraft as a mechanic until his retirement in the late 70's.

He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Farmington.

Survivors include daughters, Nancy Jahnel, New Prague; Mary Ann (Dan) Jones, Wichita, Texas; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife.

Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m., today, July 9, 2002, at the funeral home.

Service: 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Farmington with Father Gene Tiffany officiating.

Interment: St. Michael's Cemetery, Farmington.

Erma C. Orth, 85

Erma C. Orth, 85, of Austin, died Friday, July 5, 2002, at the Austin Medical Center.

She was born June 30, 1917, in Kenmore, N.D., to Arthur and Ora (Geckler) May. Her family moved to Iowa near Ames and later to Austin. She graduated from Austin High School in 1935.

On May 24, 1939, she married Roy Orth in Austin. Together they farmed near Lansing.

Erma was active at the Senior Citizens Center and the Austin Baptist Chapel where she was a member.

Survivors include sons and daughter-in-law, Eugene and Joyce Orth, Albert Lea; Robert Orth, Aurora, Colo.; daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and Robert Baker, Austin; Connie and Morris Gibson, Houston, Texas; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sister, Doris Jacobson, Albert Lea; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, June Sprandel.

Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m., today, July 9, 2002, at the funeral home and Wednesday at the church for one hour before the service

Service: 11 a.m., Wednesday, at the Austin Baptist Chapel with Pastor Paul Brown officiating. Casket bearers will be Roy Baker, Steven Baker, Don Grabau, Lane Davis, Terry Sprandel and Arnie Jacobson.

Interment: Lansing Cemetery, Lansing.

Myrtle Cecilia Olstad, 86

Myrtle Cecilia Olstad, 86, of Hayfield, died Monday, July 8, 2002.

She was born July 21, 1915, to Peter and Laura (Nelson) Madson, in Blooming Prairie.

She attended Westfield School district in Blooming Prairie.

On Jan. 20, 1937, she married Bennie Olstad in Blooming Prairie.

Myrtle was a cook at the Hayfield High School and retired in 1977.

She was a member of WELCA, Trinity Lutheran Church, and the Senior Citizens in Hayfield.

She enjoyed cooking, baking, antiquing and watching soap operas.

Survivors include son, DuWayne (Janet) Olstad, Miltona; daughters, Marlene (Clarence) Hicks, Cottage Grove; Carolyn (Michael) Haspel, Brooklyn Park; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Clara Paulson, Blooming Prairie; Lorraine Williamson, Blooming Prairie; Mabel (Maurice) Ditlevson, Rochester; brother-in-law, Merlin Madsen, Blooming Prairie.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one sister.

Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, July 10, 2002, at the funeral home and Thursday at the church for one hour before the service.

Service: 11 a.m., Thursday, at Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Curt Johnson officiating.

Interment: Fairview Cemetery, Hayfield.
