Canine unit sniffs out cocaine hidden in vehicle

Austin Police Department community service officer Renee Phan and his canine partner, Joker, assisted the Kasson Police Department in a search and seizure that netted drugs.

Phan and Joker were enroute to a canine training exercise Saturday, when the Kasson Police Department requested assistance, according to an Austin police report.

Both the Austin and Kasson departments are part of the Southeast Minnesota Regional Narcotics Task Force.

The canine unit discovered 26.7 grams of cocaine hidden in the vehicle stopped by the Kasson police officer and an arrest was made.

Drug paraphernalia was also found at the the home of the driver in Kasson, according to the report.
