Congratulations to Grand Meadow educators – and, of course, to the school’s 10th-grade students – 100 percent of whom passed the state’s mandatory writing exam for their grade level.

Congratulations to Grand Meadow educators – and, of course, to the school’s 10th-grade students – 100 percent of whom passed the state’s mandatory writing exam for their grade level.

Throughout the state, scores were up this year. But the work and energy that went into the teaching and learning at Grand Meadow must be something special, because plenty of other schools fell far short of the 100 percent mark. Nearby LeRoy-Ostrander and Southland 10th-graders did almost as well; 97 percent of them passed.

Some will argue that a growing familiarity with how to teach and how to learn for best results on the exam is behind improving scores. That may be true. But above-average results – as posted by several area schools – are nevertheless above-average. And ought to be a source of pride for all involved.
