"It may just be due to a buildup of stuff over time," school Superintendent Jerry Reshetar said on the possible cause of the blockage in pipes under the street outside of the school.

On Monday evening, Lyle Fire Department trucks were used to force out the blockage, but by this morning more sewage was in the street.

Austin Utilities was called to the area today to help unplug the blockage.

School was expected to resume late as planned, without any further delays.

Grease fire damages home

The Austin Fire Department responded Monday to a grease fire at the residence of Angelique Regner, 1213 Fourth Ave. NE.

Regner was heating grease to cook some chicken when the fire started. She doused the flames with baking soda, but was unsuccessful in containing it.

After putting out the fire, firefighters reported minimal damage to the counter and the stove.
