Thefts are on the rise this holiday season

An Arens snowblower was stolen from Gerald Montgomery’s garage at 1908 Third Ave. NW sometime between noon on Dec. 27 and 1:36 p.m. on Dec. 28. The estimated value of the snowblower is $650. Austin police do not have a suspect at this time.

Cheryl Flanders of 1913 Fourth Ave. NE also reported a stolen snowblower. It was taken from her garage sometime between Dec. 24 and 4:21 p.m. on Dec. 28. The value was estimated at $450. No suspect has been named in this crime.

Car theft

On 11:30 p.m. on Dec. 26, James Lewison of Adams reported that his 1982 Plymouth was stolen from outside of Woody’s Bar in Rose Creek. Mitchell County Sheriff’s Department officers found the vehicle in a ditch on fire at 10:00 p.m. on Dec. 26.

The fire appeared suspicious in nature. Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $300. No suspects have been named, but Lewison reported that three individuals in Woody’s Bar did not have transportation to a party in Osage, Iowa. The investigation is ongoing.

Riverland theft

A TV and VCR were stolen from the recreation room at Riverland Community College sometime between Dec. 24 and 27. Total value of the theft was $350. Both items were marked with a sticker which read "Property of Riverland Community College." No suspects have been named.

Money order theft

Four money orders purchased at Hy-Vee Food Store for rent owed to Mandolin Place Apartments were stolen from the apartment complex office and then cashed at Hy-Vee.
