GRAND MEADOW – The Lyle/Pacelli volleyball team ended the regular season with a 15-4, 15-5, 15-1 win over the Superlarks Tuesday. L/P finished with a perfect 10-0 mark in the Southeast Conference West Division. They have now won 14 straight matches and finish the regular season with a 24-3 record, with all three losses in tournaments.
Thursday, L/P will find out where they will be seeded in the Section 1A, West Sub Section. They could have a bye because the Minnesota Academy for the Deaf, Faribault will not play in the postseason. Bethlehem Academy, Faribault (18-6) is the only team that could challenge L/P for the top seed in the Sub Section. First round games are Thursday, Oct. 26 at the sites of the top two seeds. The second round is at Austin High School on Saturday, Oct. 28.
Laura Nelson and Cassie Fuller led the way for L/P against the Superlarks. Fuller with her serves and Nelson with her all around play. Fuller was 20-for-20 serving in the match with 18 service points. She closed out game two with two points and then scored the first 11 points in game three. Amber Peterson then replaced her and L/P scored the final four points of the match.
"I have a pretty good front row," Fuller said about her serving prowess. "They won the points. This has been an exciting season. We have set school records in wins for both schools. We are pretty proud of that."
Nelson, Amy Bickler, and Kassie Baldner were in that front row. Nelson had 12 kills in the match, three ace blocks and 10 digs. She also had four ace serves.
"She had an outstanding night," L/P co-coach Norm Blaser said. "She was well over 90 percent in kill efficiency with one mistake in 17 attempts."
Baldner had six kills in the game and Bickler 17 set assists. Fuller had four kills and nine digs.
L/P is receiving some statewide attention. In the most recent Class A Associated Press Poll, it was not in the top 10,but was listed among the others that received votes.
