Texaco Food Mart, 709 21st St. NE, has reported the theft of cash and checks totaling $9925.

According to an Austin Police Department report, the theft was reported to have occurred sometime between 4:30 p.m. Sunday and 4:45 a.m. Monday.

Store manager Alicia Smith, Adams, said $6,859 in cash was stolen, plus $3,066 in checks.

Austin police are reviewing the store’s video surveillance tapes and questioning store employees.

No sign of forcible entry was noticed by investigators.

Phan is champion

Austin Police Department officer Rene Phan is a champion power lifter.

Officer Phan won first place honors in the United States Association of Power Lifters competition at St. Louis, Mo. last weekend.

Phan earned the title in the men’s police and fire division’s 165-pounds weight class.

Phan finished third in the "raw" division for the 165-pound weight class.

In both competitions, the 154-pound police officer bench-pressed 302 pounds.

Phan has been an Austin police officer since Dec. 1, 1997.
