According to Mower County Sheriff Barry J. Simonson, Brian Henderson and Jason Reinartz had been involved in a dispute earlier Sunday and locked down.

When the midday meal was about to be served, jailers decided to let Henderson, 24, and Reinartz, 26, eat with the general prisoner population.

However, Henderson left his cell and immediately went to another cell and attacked an inmate.

When jailers intervened, Henderson and Reinartz refused to return to their cells and had to be subdued.

According to Simonson, the pair face fourth-degree assault charges for their scuffle with jailers.

Deer strikes car, man

A deer attacked a man after the animal was struck by a passing vehicle.

Tara Carpenter of Austin was driving in the 400 block of Fourth Street SE at 4:22 a.m. Monday, when her vehicle struck a buck.

Scott Denaway, also of Austin, came upon the scene and stopped his vehicle. Denaway attempted to drag the deer from the roadway, when the animal regained consciousness and gored him with an antler.

Austin Police Department officers arrived at the scene and dispatched the wounded deer and took Denaway to Austin Medical Center.
