Bob Dunfee is accepting the final photography contest entries, 4-Hers are delivering their projects to the fairgrounds, herdsmanship contracts are due and livestock interviews are being conducted.

The Mower County Extension Service staff has set up operations in Liebenstein Hall, the 4-H building.

The fair officially begins at noon Tuesday, when the Mower County Board of Commissioners will conduct ribbon-cutting ceremonies with the Austin Area Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors.

Adams American Legion Post No. 146 will conduct the flag-raising portion of the ceremonies and Daryl Boehm, president of the Mower County Fair Board, will announce this year’s Outstanding Fair Persons of the Year award-winners.

Then, the summertime extravaganza begins with Dale Merriam’s Midway Rides and Attractions, plus a full slate of events Tuesday.

Opening day highlights: A free gospel music festival beginning 7 p.m. Tuesday and featuring Bradford White, plus the Mower County Beef Producers’ annual beef cookoff at 3:30 p.m. in front of Crane Pavilion and the Midwest Steer and Heifer Show at 7 p.m. in Crane Pavilion.
