Youth soccer leagues forming for fall

The Austin Park and Recreation Department will offer outdoor soccer leagues again this fall. The schedule will begin August 17, with leagues for ages 5-6, 7-8, and 9-11.

Practices will be held Tuesday nights and games will be played Thursday nights at Todd Park. Cost is $10 and the registration deadline is Friday, August 4.

Summer basketball ends

The regular season is complete for the five Park and Recreation Department summer basketball leagues in Austin.

St. Ansgar won the 10-12 grade division with a 10-1 record, one game better than runner-up Albert Lea. The post-season tournament began July 19 and will wrap up with the championship on August 2 at Riverside Arena at 8 p.m.

The 6-7 grade girls league concluded July 17. Iowa Hoops went undefeated (7-0) to win the regular season title. The tournament championship will be played July 31 at Riverside at 8 p.m.

The regular season ended for the 8-9 grade boys league on July 14. The St. Ansgar Saints finished with a perfect 10-0 record to win the league. The tournament championship will be played at 8 p.m. Friday at Riverside.

The Minnesota Freeze went 7-0 to win the 6-7 grade boys division by one game over the Stewie Tigers. Their tournament championship will be held at 5 p.m. Friday at Riverside.

The 8-9 grade girls league finished its regular season Tuesday and will hold its tournament championship game August 1 at 8 p.m. at Riverside.
