According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the accident occurred 4:47 p.m. Sunday along Interstate 90, east of Austin.

Both Miller, the driver of a compact pickup truck, and his lone passenger, Voogd, were ejected from the vehicle. The pair were not wearing their seat belts.

The vehicle was westbound, when it left the roadway and went into the freeway median and rolled over.

After being treated there by a Gold Cross Ambulance Service crew, the pair, both 17 of Austin, were air-lifted from the scene by Mayo One Air Ambulance to St. Mary’s Hospital, Rochester.

According to the MSP, the accident remains under investigation.

Verbal dispute escalates

Richard Lang, 60 of 1027 Fourth Ave. N.E., was charged with 5th degree assault, a misdemeanor, following a verbal dispute with a family member Monday night.

According to an Austin Police Department report, a 17-year-old male came to the Austin – Mower County Law Enforcement Center at 11:35 p.m. Monday.

He was accompanied by a 16-year-old female, who identified herself as the daughter of Lang.

According to the pair, Lang refused to allow the daughter to move from the residence and blocked her exit.

The juvenile male was allegedly struck in the chest by Lang and a wrestling match ensued that was broken up when the daughter pulled her father from the melee.

Mower County Attorney Patrick A. Oman, who was at the LEC, told the Austin police officer investigating the report, the circumstances warranted charges.

The juvenile male signed a citizen’s complaint and the officer served the complaint on Lang at his residence.

When questioned, Lang did not dispute the teenagers’ account of the incident.

Neither the injury suffered by the teenage male nor a cut ear suffered by Lang warranted medical attention.

Lang is a 3rd Ward Austin City Council member.
