Five Austin High athletes will participate in the Class AA state track and field meet beginning Friday.

– Eighth grader Brittney Erichson, right, will compete in the 800-meter run. She finished second at the Section 1AA meet at Carleton College, running a season-best time of 2 minutes, 18.30 seconds.

– The 4 x 200 relay team of, left to right, senior Mike Milli, junior Jaime Zavala, sophomore Bryan Larson and senior Preston Horton appears to be in fine position heading into state. They ran a 1:30.51 at the Section 1AA meet, which earned them second to Owatonna’s 1:30.48 and beat the state cut time of 1:30.99. The cut time is the five-year average time of the fifth-place finishers.

– Finally, Horton will compete in the 100 dash. Horton is the Big Nine champion in the sprint and finished second at the Section 1AA meet in a photo finish with Owatonna’s Mike Lundstrom. Both ran the race in 11.07.
