Austin managed to edge Mayo by six strokes in the triangular at Faribo Country Club.

"Needless to say, a very disappointing loss," Austin coach Claudia Pilot said. "We have really been on a roll, and to lose a conference match really sets us back a bit."

Austin now has three losses in the conference.

"It was just one of those days when they couldn’t get anything going," Pilot said. "David Lorenzens round included five birdies, so he is proving that he can score."

Adam Plotts doubled bogeyed the last hole, throwing off his score. Chris Larson was a steady 13 pars and five bogeys.

Jeff Clark continued his solid play.

"I knew coming in that the top two players for Faribault have been playing well," Pilot said. "Luke Benoit is the No. 4 ranked player in class AA, and Mike Fiedler, just a freshman, is ranked No. 9.

"Benoit has not shot a round over 75 yet this year. It was their home course, which they know real well, and they deserved to win with their top three scores."

In junior varsity action, the Austin JV tied their school record score of 315, with Cole Berhow shooting 75, Joey Mohrfeld 79, Eric Wagner 80, and Andy Erichson 81.

Mayo JV shot 332 and Faribault shot 378.

"There are many varsity teams in the state that aren’t shooting as well as 315," Pilot said. "It shows again the depth that our team has."
