The old Wold Drugstore building has been attracting a lot of attention since city employees pulled down the siding Wednesday. For many, it’s like seeing an old friend. Donna Gerlach, second from left in white, stopped to take a picture. She worked at the drugstore for three months after graduating. Carol King, in red next to Gerlach, used to wait for the city bus across the street. King said she remembered the sign being much bigger. Although the building is now the property of the city of Austin, city officials are hoping that won’t be true for long. Today is the last day for interested buyers to submit their proposals for the building to the city administrator’s office. The city is looking for a buyer to restore the building in a way that will highlight its historic features. Today also is the last day for proposals for the Silver Bullet/Arcade building.
