Gov. Jesse Ventura put his stamp of approval on a package of proposals known as Katie’s Law Monday afternoon, and he should be heartily commended.

Though Ventura expressed some reservations on areas such as harsher sentencing for serious sexual offenders, on the whole he and most of the public agreed that something needed to be done in this area.

The bill increases accounting of registered offenders and provides $12.5 million for a statewide computer network to track all criminals.

This is a long-term commitment and won’t happen overnight – but it is worth every minute.
