Patricia Waugh is a proud owner of four tiny plastic eye implants, developed by Dr. Howard Straub of the Colorado Eye Institute, that eliminate her need for bifocals. Her husband, Dr. William Waugh, who has an office in Austin, assisted in the implant procedure done in Mexico. The procedure is not allowed in the United States, but the doctor said he thinks it will meet federal Food and Drug Administration standards, and be approved in this country within a few years.
