Elsie G. Brown, 86

Elsie G. Brown, 86 of Austin, died Friday, March 10, 2000, at Austin Medical Center.

Elsie G. Brown was born on August 24, 1913, in Walthamstow, England, the daughter of William and Eliza Cole Wilson. She married Sidney A. Brown at St. Andrew’s Church in Walthamstow on April 16, 1933. At the onset of World War II, the Brown family was forced to move to St. Albans north of London and lived there until 1949. The Brown family, including parents and six children, immigrated to the United States in May, 1949, settling in Albert Lea, Minn. under the sponsorship of a Albert Lea family, Len and Luella Westcott.

Survivors include children, Sidney and Judy Brown, Austin, Betsy and Tom Wiley, Maple Grove, Beryl Bank, Austin, Ray and Kitty Brown, Woburn, N.H., David and Linda Brown, Eden Prairie, and Luella Brown, Austin; 24 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren and 3 great, great-grandchildren; plus one sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and Fred Gould, London, England; and nieces and nephews.

Elsie was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, husband, Sidney A. Brown; a son Joseph, and a great grandson, Ian Davis Norgaard.

· Service: 2 p.m. Saturday, March 18, 2000, memorial service at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Austin, with the Rev. Andrew Lindahl officiating.

· Visitation: No visitation or reviewal. Friends may pay their respects one hour before services March 18 at the church.

· Memorials: Family prefers memorials to American Cancer Society.

· Funeral Home: Clasen-Jordan Mortuary of Austin.

Kelly Carson, 40

Kelly Carson, 40, formerly of McIntire, passed away on March 15, at the Muse Norris Inpatient Unit in Mason City after an extended illness.

Kelly was born on May 28, 1959 to Willard and Evelyn Erickson Eastman in Riceville, Iowa. She attended local school and was a graduate of Riceville High School. She was a graduate of Riceville High School. She was a graduate of Capri School of Cosmetology in Mason City, Iowa.

Survivors include two daughters, Tiffany Kruse of Riceville, Iowa and Cassidy McCarthy of Owatonna; her father, Bill Eastman of Carpenter, Iowa; two sisters, Susan Hegge of Rose Creek and Billi Jo Hummel of Richardson, Texas and one brother, Jacob of Decorah, Iowa. Also surviving is a special friend, Randy Christey of Owatonna.

Kelly was preceded in death by her mother, Evelyn in 1997.

· Service: 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 18, 2000 at the Riceville United Methodist Church with Rev. Edythe Hill officiating.

· Interment: Wayne Township Cemetery in McIntire

· Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday at Lindstrom Funeral Home in Riceville.

Orval Hopfe, 84

Orval V. Hopfe, 84, Austin, died Wednesday morning at St. Mark’s Lutheran Home in Austin.

He is survived by his wife Arlene Hopfe, Austin; daughter and son-in-law Sharon and Thomas Guinta, Chicago, Ill.; three grandsons; eight great grandchildren; sisters and brother-in-law Maydene McDonald, Austin, Beth and Durwood Meyer, Owatonna; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and step mother Mabel Hopfe.

· Service: A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 18, 2000 at 11 a.m. at the Clasen-Jordan Chapel with the Rev. Patricia M. Toschak officiating. There will be no reviewal. His body was donated for science to the Mayo Foundation Bequest Program in Rochester, Minn.

· Visitation: Friends may call Clasen-Jordan Mortuary from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the chapel.

In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred.

Donna Gerber, 81

Donna M. Gerber, 81, a resident of the Cedars of Austin, died Wednesday morning, March 15, 2000 at the Austin Medical Center.

Donna was born March 30, 1918 in Millican, Ore. to Earl and Edna (Mitchell) Russell. On Nov. 26, 1946 she was united in marriage to Ralph P. Gerber at Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Austin. she was a greatful for her many friends. donna enjoyed sewing, handiwork, watching baseball, family gatherings and visiting. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother.

She is survived by six daughters and sons-in-law Patricia M. Halverson, Loves Park, Ill., Pamela and Terry Fogal, Mankato, Beverly and Mark Clennon, Springfield, Minn., Barbara and Randy Kvam, Austin, Paulette and Bob Cummings, Austin, Betty and Mark Erickson, Billings, Mont.; 22 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters and a brother-in-law Margaret and Will Cowitz, Kirkland, Wash., Marian Wilkenson, Omaha, Neb., brother Alfred Russell, Everett, Wash.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ralph P. Gerber on Dec. 14, 1997, a brother and a grandson.

The honorary casket bearer will be Donna’s sister Marian Wilkenson and the casket bearers will be Donna’s daughters Patricia M Halverson, Pamela Fogal, Beverly Clennon, Barbara Kvam, Paulette Cummings and Betty Erickson.

The pianist will be Margo Bissen and soloist will be Donna’s granddaughter Megan (Clennon) Quesenberry.

· Service: A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 18, 2000 at Queen of Angels Catholic Church with Father Virgil Duellman and Father Joe Fogal officiating.

· Interment: Calvary Cemetery

· Visitation: there will be a 6 p.m. wake service on Friday at Mayer Funeral Home where friends may call from 4-8 p.m. and also one hour before the service at the church on Saturday.

Joseph Hahn, 48

Joseph D. Hahn 48, Austin, died March 16, 2000 at Burr Oak Manor.

He is survived by his mother Elizabeth (Betty) Hahn, Austin; brother Edger Hahn, Austin; aunts, uncles and cousins and many friends.

Avery Lewis, 92

Avery Lewis, 92, Blooming Prairie, died Tuesday, March 14, 2000 at Prairie Manor where she had been a resident.

She was born April 28, 1907 to Andrew and Labaelle (King) Nelson near Bixby, Minn. Avery attended rural school and lived in the Blooming Prairie area all her live. She married Leonard Lewis May 9, 1928. To this union two daughter were born. Avery and Leonard farmed in Westfield Township.

Survivors include daughters and son-in-law Marian Hensrud, Blooming Prairie; Arlene and Richard Deming, Springfield, Mo.; four grandchildren; 10 grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; one sister Mrs. Clinton (Rosella) Erickson, Owatonna; nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard, in 1977; her parents; five brothers, Melvin, Leonard, Edward, Robert and George Nelson.

· Service: 1 p.m. Saturday, March 18, at First Lutheran Church in Blooming Prairie with the Rev. Richard Hegal officiating.

· Interment: Blooming Prairie Cemetery.

· Visitation: Friends may call at Blooming Prairie Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and at the church one hour before the service.

Juletta E. Iverson, 89

Juletta Evelyn Lewison-Iverson, 89 of Adams and formerly of LeRoy, died Thursday evening, March 16, 2000, at her home in Adams.

She was born January 26, 1911, in Adams Township, Mower County, to Lewis and Betsy (Gordon) Lewison.

She graduated Adams High School and married Clifford "Red" Iverson October 1, 1932 at Little Cedar Lutheran Church, Adams.

The couple farmed in Lodi Township, Mower County, from 1942-1976, when they retired and moved to LeRoy, where they lived until 1996, when they moved to an apartment in Adams.

She was a member of the LeRoy Lutheran Church, where she was active in circle work and was also a member of the Lodi Women’s Club.

Her hobbies were sewing and crocheting and she enjoyed her family.

Survivors include one son, Kermit and wife, Joan, Iverson, Albert Lea; two daughters, Barbara (Donald) Jackel, Austin, and Jean Winjum, Wellsburg, Iowa; 13 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; plus nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Clifford, in August 1996, one grandson, three brothers, four sisters, a son-in-law and a daughter-in-law.

· Service: 1 p.m. Monday, March 20, 2000, at LeRoy Lutheran Church, LeRoy, with the Rev. Tom Kolden officiating.

· Interment: LeRoy Lutheran Church Cemetery.

· Visitation: 2-4:30 p.m. Sunday, March 19, 2000, at Hindt-Hutchins Funeral Home, LeRoy, and one hour prior to the service Monday at the church.

· Funeral Home: Hindt-Hutchins Funeral Home of LeRoy.

Myrtle Shirbroun, 91

Myrtle Shirbroun, 91, formerly of LeRoy, died last night at the Grand Meadow Health Care Center where she had resided for 3 1/2 years.

She was born to Elmer and Anna (Arrowsmith) Boone Nov. 6, 1908 in Winefred, Mont. She married March 9, 1927 to Estel Shirbroun. Estel passed away in 1984. They farmed in the LeRoy area for many years. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by a son Dean and wife Pat; daughters Marjorie Mossyge-McCool and husband Bud, Mary and husband Virgil Speer; eight grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; one great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband; three sisters and two brothers.

· Service: 1:30 on Sunday, March 19, 2000 at First Presbyterian Church in LeRoy with the Rev. Steve Elderbrock officiating.

· Interment: LeRoy Cemetery

· Visitation: Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the Hindt-Hutchins Funeral Home in LeRoy and one hour prior at the church.

Mary Michels, 74

Mary A. Michels, 74, died Tuesday evening, March 14, 2000 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Home where she was a resident.

Survivors include a daughter Elizabeth Ryley, Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei; two sons and daughters-in-law Jerry and Susan Michels, Kenosha, Wis., Robert and Cathy Michels, Menomonie, Wis.; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters and a brother-in-law Evaona and Laurence Moeykens, Austin, Bertha Lievrouw, Osage, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her husband Russell M. Michels on Nov. 3, 1989.

The casket bearers will be Jim Boerjon, August Boerjon, Larry Moeykens, Ray Arickx Jr., Mark Arickx, Mark Michels, Tome Michels and Michael Michels.

· Service: A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 18, 2000 at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father Louis Cook officiating.

· Interment: Calvary Cemetery

· Visitation: There will be a 4 p.m. CCW rosary and a 7 p.m. wake service on Friday at Mayer Funeral Home where friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. and also from 9 to 10 a.m. on Saturday.

Delmer Peterson, 75

Delmer Peterson, age 75, of 1803 Third Street NE died Wednesday morning, March 15, 2000 at the Austin Medical Center.

He is survived by his wife Elelyn Peterson, Austin; two daughters and sons-in-law Susan and Don Johnson, Plymouth, Minn, Judy and Patrick Morris, Bonner Springs, Kan.; one grandson; twin brother and sister-in-law Deward and Margie Peterson, Terre Haute, Ind., brothers Gerald Peterson, Austin, Francis Peterson, Grand Meadow.

· Service: A memorial mass will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 18, 2000 at Queen of Angels Catholic Church with Father Virgil Duellman officiating.

· Visitation: The family will greet friends one hour before the service at the church on Saturday.

Mayer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
