Gysi also served as editor of Popular Communications magazine in New York and worked as an editor and reporter at daily newspapers in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. The new managing editor also is a long-time free-lance writer who specializes in radio communications topics. He is a licensed amateur radio operator and also is interested in all facets of radio communications and broadcasting.

Gysi moved to Austin this month.

"This is an exciting time to be a journalist in Austin," Gysi said. "With the area’s businesses booming, the commercial growth in the area surrounding the mall and a lot of good things happening in town such as the new library, there’s plenty to keep our news staff busy.

"The Austin Daily Herald has an excellent news staff that is dedicated to serving our readers in Mower County," he continued. "Day after day, the Herald’s news staff produces stories that keep our readers well informed. There is no better source of news for Mower County residents than the Austin Daily Herald."

"We’re extremely excited to add the talent and leadership Chuck possesses to our already skilled news staff," Austin Daily Herald Publisher Neal Ronquist added. "I believe our readers will see significant improvements in our news product in the coming weeks and months. Chuck’s addition further demonstrates our commitment to providing Austin and Mower County with the best daily newspaper."

The addition of Gysi does not end the planned additions for the Austin Daily Herald’s newsroom. Gysi plans to add another reporter to the staff in the next month.

Gysi can be reached by telephone at 434-2230, by fax at 437-8644 or by e-mail at newsroom@austindailyherald.com.
