Veterans Harold Rubin, left, and Roger Miller of VFW Post No. 1216 take down the old flag at Honor Guards Park in the first ceremony of the day this morning. The 9 a.m. flag raising – which had to be extended for lack of a ladder – was the first of several programs in honor of Veterans Day. At 10:45 a.m. there was a program at the Veterans Memorial on the Courthouse lawn, followed by a VFW ladies auxiliary bake sale at noon. At 1 p.m. Pacelli students honor Veterans Day with a ceremony and several readings, and at 2:30 p.m. there will be a special assembly in the AHS Knowlton Auditorium, where five WWII veterans – three will be present – will receive their high school diplomas. At 3 p.m. there will be a program honoring the POW/MIA at the VFW Post, 300 4th Ave. NE, to be followed by a free roast beef dinner for all veterans and spouses.
