It’s up to half a dozen. So far six people have turned in applications for the vacant 1st Ward Austin City Council seat. John Howley, David Solomonson, Harry Willmott, Neil Fedson, Janet Anderson and Geoff Baker have made their interest in the post official. Other interested residents of the 1st Ward have through Friday to turn in an application for the one-year position.
The 1st Ward seat, vacated by Roberto Romo after the last council meeting for personal reasons, will be filled by appointment until the next election in 2000.
Applications are available at City Hall, and any resident of the 1st Ward who is 18 or over and an eligible voter can apply. Applications will be accepted through 5 p.m. Friday, with interviews by the mayor and council to take place on Monday. The interim council member will be selected by vote of the mayor and council and the official appointment will be made at the Nov. 1 council meeting.
