Austin’s cycling senior, Dave Thomsen, competed in the Huntsman World Senior Games Oct. 12-15 in St. George, Utah.
Thomsen first picked up the bronze medal in the 3-mile hill climb through Snow Canyon.
One day later, Thomsen brought home the gold in the 40-kilometer time trial. For Thomsen, the win earned him a fifth career Senior Games medal. Thomsen won the 40K time trial for the fourth straight year in the 55-59 age division.
In the final two events, Thomsen finished seventh in the criterium and fifth in the 35-mile road race. Both races came down to sprints, "which I am not very good at," Thomsen said.
Claus Gruner won the overall yellow jersey with 19 points collected in the four events. Thomsen finished second in the race for the yellow jersey with 17 points.
After another fine performance, Thomsen said he was ready to take a break before getting ready for next year.
