The county board’s decision was a positive first step in improving the quality of services and facilities of the Mower County Historical Society, which is located at the Mower County Fairgrounds. The Mower County Historical Society had requested an additional $15,000 more to help fund new initiatives pushed by new Historical Society board members.

Those initiatives include financing wage increases for employees who have gone several years without them, expanding the Historical Society’s hours of operation and other efforts aimed at making the facilities more user friendly.

The Historical Society’s initiatives are an aggressive step toward providing community members with the technology and flexibility to take advantage of the wonderful collection that has been assembled.

With the Society’s own fundraising efforts and the continued support of the Mower County Board, area residents may soon have the opportunity to interact with Mower County’s rich past.
