Henrietta Reynen, 96

Henrietta Draayer Reynen, 96, died Friday, Sept. 15, 2017, at Orange City Hospital in Orange City, Iowa.

She was born Feb. 26, 1921, on a farm near Sioux Center, Iowa, the daughter of Henry Draayer and Elbertje Den Herder. She was the youngest of seven children and was baptized in the First Reformed Church of Sioux Center. In 1924 the family moved to Hollandale, Minnesota, where they lived on a farm just north of town and were members of the Hollandale Reformed Church.

Growing up, Henrietta and her sister Elizabeth often helped their father in the fields. She attended Hollandale School, graduating from eighth grade in 1935. At 17 years old, Henrietta made profession of her faith. She was an active member of the Christian Endeavor Society at church and a member of the Girls Volunteer Band.

On Nov. 8, 1940, she married Henry Reynen of Hollandale. They lived and farmed near Hollandale. They were blessed with three children, David, Robert and Esther. In 1978 they moved from the farm to Hollandale. In 2003 they moved to the Cedars in Austin, Minnesota. In 2008, Henrietta moved to Orange City.

Henrietta was active in church, singing in the choir and teaching catechism, Sunday school and Bible school. She was a member of Mary Martha Circle. She participated in Homemakers and helped with quilting and 4-H. She enjoyed gardening and was dedicated to her family.

Henrietta is survived by daughter, Esther (Marvin) Wynia of Maurice, Iowa; daughters-in-law, Joyce Reynen of Austin and Sharon King of Blackduck, Minnesota; grandchildren, Mike (Vickie) Reynen of Kenya, Africa, Marsha (Mike) Wilder of Minnetonka, Minnesota, Mark (Tracey) Reynen of Austin, Marla (Bob) Peters of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Sue (Jack) Shields of Blaine, Minnesota, Troy (Quenby) Broitzman of Naples, Florida, Tricia (Brian) Veenendaal of Cedarburg, Wisconsin, Shannon (Larry) Kampa of Blackduckk, Greg (Erin) Reynen of Singapore, Liz (Tim) Tate of Red River, New Mexico, Chad (Jaci) Wynia of Maurice, Renee Wynia of Orange City, Julie Wynia of Folsom, California, and Linda Wynia of Sioux Center, Iowa; great-grandchildren, Kelly Reynen, Kenzie (Jamie) Mahan, Kyle (Maddie) Reynen, Rebekah, Mariah, and Austin Wilder, Maxwell and Lillian Reynen, Nathan, Noah, Lydia and Eli Peters, Sara, Julia, Jace and Jackson Shields, Brett, Taylor, Brinn and Tahlia Veenendaal, Jeremiah, Shania, Emily and Hope Kampa, James and Elizabeth Reynen and Chloe and Rachel Wynia; sister-in-law, Gwen Draayer of Albert Lea, Minnesota and numerous nieces and nephews.

Henrietta was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Henry; sons, David and Robert Reynen; daughter-in-law, Patricia Reynen; great-granddaughter, Faith Kampa; three brothers; and three sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, 2017, at the Hollandale Reformed Church. The Rev. Neal Ooms will officiate. Interment will be at the Hollandale Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
