Austin Toastmasters win awards; Maxfield advances to Oct. 7 Humorous Speaking Contest

Two members of Austin’s Tuesday With Toastmasters Club were recenty recognized for individual achievement.

Ann Maxfield won the Area 55 Humorous Speech Contest in Owatonna on Sept. 12. With her speech “Tractor,” she advances to the next competition in Pine Island on Oct. 7. She will represent Area 55 and compete with nine other area winners in the Southern Division Humorous Speech Contest.

The Southern Division encompasses Toastmasters clubs across southeastern and southcentral Minnesota. The division winner advances to the final District 6 competition which will include division winners from across Minnesota and Ontario.

Maxfield also placed second in the Table Topics category at the Area 55 competition.

Elsa Esquivel-Soto, another club member, was selected by division leadership as the “Area Director of the Year 2016-17.”

This selection recognizes her as an outstanding leader and mentor to all the clubs and individual members in Area 55, by helping them achieve club and personal goals in Toastmasters.

She was selected over the nine other area directors in the division for her achievement.
