Paint the Rink tops $200K; $24K raised last Friday at annual cancer fundraiser

The Austin Bruins raised $24,215 last Friday during the annual Paint the Rink Pink hockey game, bringing its total in funds raised for Paint the Town Pink and The Hormel Institute to $217,409.

The Bruins rode two goals by Jack Murphy, who was just traded to the team, and a hat trick by Justin Misiak to a 6-2 win over the Coulee Region Chill in the annual fundraising game played on pink ice.

In the month leading up to the game, the Bruins sold T-shirts and raffle tickets for Bruiser’s No. 10 pink jersey. Game night included a 50-50 raffle and cancer tribute video with photo submissions from fans.

After the game, the team held a live auction featuring skits and performances from Bruins players. Each pink jersey was auctioned off for charity, selling for an average of $700 to $800 with a few going for over $1,000.

The team also auctioned off several autographed alumni items, including signed sticks from Minnesota State-Mankato and the University of Minnesota men’s hockey teams and signed jerseys from the University of Minnesota-Duluth and University of Massachusetts-Lowell.

Paint the Rink Pink raised $35,000 last year.
