Shirley Gomer, 91

Shirley was born in Austin on Nov. 9, 1924, to Jim and Clarissa (Titus) Greenlee. She attended Austin High School. After her schooling, she worked for George A. Hormel Inc. for a few years then she moved to California to work at Coronado Island during World War II. On April 27, 1946, Shirley married Harold Gomer at Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Austin. They started a family and Shirley became a homemaker. Shirley went back to work for Hormel’s and then later worked for Woolworth’s for 10 years, and at Comforcare for a short period of time.

Shirley was a member of Queen of Angels Catholic Church and the Austin American Legion Auxiliary, where she served as the president for many years. Shirley and Harold were avid dancers that took lessons and were fun to watch on the dance floor. Shirley and her family loved to travel. They consistently were able to take annual vacations, in which fond memories were formed. She loved gardening and plants and the occasional trip to Las Vegas with Harold.
