Our Opinion: Participate in caucus process

Want to voice your opinion about the upcoming presidential election? Now’s your chance.

On Tuesday, Minnesota residents have a chance to be a part of what’s come to be known as Super Tuesday — the one day out of the presidential election year when the most number of states in one day vote for which presidential candidate they support for the Democratic and Republican parties.

The country has been inundated with news about this election, and this week the country will turn to us to take an active role in the process to determine our next president.

In Minnesota, we do that through precinct caucuses.

Both the Republican and DFL parties will meet separately to discuss political platforms and then choose their preferred candidate.

Mower County’s Republicans will gather at two locations: Ellis Middle School, 1700 Fourth Ave. SE, Austin, and Grand Meadow School, 710 Fourth Ave. NE, Grand Meadow.

On the DFL side, all Mower County precincts will meet in the Ruby Rupner Auditorium at the Hormel Nature Center, 1304 21st St. NE, Austin.

The caucus meetings will begin at 7 p.m., but registration will start before. People are encouraged to know their precincts before attending.

Anyone who will be 18 and eligible to vote by Nov. 8 may cast a ballot that night.

We encourage you to get involved. Help in the nomination process for each party.
