LEROY — When LeRoy-Ostrander senior Sam Siskow was a freshman she wanted to play college volleyball and basketball, but that dream took a break for a stretch when she started to think she’d only be able to play volleyball at the next level.

This year, the Waldorf College women’s basketball team began recruiting Siskow and everything fell into place. On Thursday, Siskow will sign her national-letter-of-intent to play volleyball and basketball at NAIA Waldorf with a partial athletic scholarship.

Siskow is hoping to go into the physical therapy program at Waldorf and she said the school has a good program.

“I just like the atmosphere of the school,” Siskow said. “It’s bigger than LeRoy, but it’s still small enough that I can get the attention that I need from the professors.”

Siskow has been a standout in basketball and volleyball for the Cardinals since she was a freshman. She averaged 12.9 points and 11.2 rebounds for the Cardinal basketball team last season and she is on the verge of achieving the 1,000 point and 1,000 rebound career milestones. In volleyball, Siskow is a potent middle hitter as she racked up 352 kills and 162 digs for the Cardinals in her senior season.

“It’s a really nice opportunity to play both of the sports I love,” Siskow said. “If I’m in volleyball season, I’ll say volleyball is my favorite sport, but if I’m in basketball season, I’d say basketball is my favorite. If I had to choose one, I’d say volleyball.”

Siskow credited her coaches for helping her figure out the recruiting process and she also caught a bit of inspiration when she saw LO grad Jace Bunne sign to play football at Southwest Minnesota State University last year.

“I just kind of just figured it out as I went,” Siskow said. “I saw Jace sign for football and I thought that would be pretty cool. Both of my coaches helped me out a lot too.”

Siskow is ready for the challenge of balancing two college sports and taking on college courses. She said time management will be a key factor for her.

“I’m definitely making sure I get myself into studying habits this year,” she said. “There are a few girls down there that do volleyball and basketball. I’m going to ask them what they do.”

Waldorf’s volleyball team finished 9-29 overall last season and the Waldorf women’s basketball team is currently 1-19 overall.
