City council to host first meeting of the year

The Austin City Council is ready to kickoff 2016 by welcoming two new police officers and awarding a bid for early work on the Jay C. Hormel Nature Center’s $7 million interpretive center project.

The City Council meets at 5:30 p.m. Monday in the council chambers at Austin City Hall, 500 Fourth Ave. NE.

The council will welcome Nathan Hoefs and Nate Curtiss to the Austin Police Department, and both are slated to be sworn in early Monday.

The council will also discuss two nature center bids for commissioning the geothermal and to ensure the heating, cooling, ventilation, plumbing and electoral system work well together.

The nature center’s $7 million interpretive center will likely go out for bid later this month.

After the main meeting, the council will hold a work session to discuss a crosswalk by The Hormel Institute, 2016 assessment rates and more.
