The Austin Public Schools’ Calendar Committee has released a public-wide survey to find out how the community feels about a balanced calendar or later start time for students.

The survey was released Tuesday online on the Austin Public School District’s portal push, over email, on Twitter and Facebook. On Monday, the survey will also be released in paper form at each school site, along with Hy-Vee and the YMCA.

Calendar committee leader and teacher Jill Rollie hopes to get the word out so more people can weigh in with their opinion.

“There are printed copies, or paper copies, at each school site, and they’re in Spanish and English,” she said.

Rollie noted the Austin Public Library has public computers where people would be able to access the online version of the survey.

“Many people have already gotten online and taken the surveys so that’s wonderful,” Rollie said. “We’ve had a really great response so far.”

The survey is open to everyone in the community — parents, school employees, community members, and all stakeholders. The survey will close Jan. 22.

“At that point we’ll be shutting down the survey to analyze responses,” Rollie said.

The group will likely summarize the findings to present to the Austin Public School Board in the spring. The survey has about 10 questions on it, with some questions that have matrixes. Rollie encouraged everyone to take the survey so the committee can get as many responses from the community as possible.

“On behalf of the calendar working group, we really appreciate your insight,” she said. “Please take a moment to complete the survey.”
