Austin man sentenced in criminal sexual conduct case

An Austin man was sentenced to 35 years in prison on Friday for committing several acts of criminal sexual conduct with a minor over several years.

Joel Alejo-Rubio, 29, was previously convicted in Mower County Court for several counts of sexual conduct with a minor. He will also have to pay $11,344.23 in restitution, and he will get credit for 279 days served.

He pled not guilty to one charge last May, and then he pled not guilty to seven additional charges last October.

According to the court complaint, a medical center contacted the Austin Police Department regarding a victim between the age of 7 and 13 who disclosed she had been sexually assaulted by Alejo-Rubio over the past five years, with the last incident being in early January of 2015.
