ST. PAUL — There’s a high-stakes, big-bucks rematch brewing for Minnesota’s 8th Congressional District seat.

Republican Stewart Mills III announced Tuesday that he’s formally in for a second attempt to unseat Democratic U.S. Rep. Rick Nolan. Their 2014 contest was narrowly won by Nolan in what was one of the nation’s most expensive House contests.

Mills is part of the family that owns the Fleet Farm chain of stores. He put some of his own money into his last campaign, but it was the outside money from independent groups that made for a TV advertising tsunami.

Nolan is preparing to defend the northern Minnesota district, which he has served since 2013. He also served in Congress in the 1970s.
