Fall curling league starts on Sept. 21

Curling anyone?

The fall session starts Monday, Sept. 21 and goes for five weeks at 6 p.m. for those 16 and older. Cost is $50 per person.

If you are not sure about this sport we are offering the opportunity for those to come and try it for $10 to see if you like it. This session will be held at Riverside Arena. Please sign up in our office by 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 21.

A learn to skate for all ages will be held on Tuesdays and Sundays starting Sept. 22. Cost is $30 which includes four free open skate passes. Please sign up in our office.

Austin Youth Hockey registration will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesdays, Sept. 22 and 29 as well as from 10 to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3. They will also play hockey for free from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. that day so bring your skates and gear to check out the ice.

Deadline to sign up for Fall Adult Hockey league is Wednesday, Sept. 18. League will begin Wednesday, Sept. 23 and will run for six weeks. Players must be 18 years old as of June 1, 2015 and no games will begin before 6:30 p.m.

There will be one official and one scorekeeper for each game. Team entry fee is $510, which breaks down to $51 per player with a 10 person roster or $8.50 per week. The roster limit is 20 players.

The Riverside Figure Skate Club will have their first skating session from 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 20. They offer a 3-Free Lessons program the first three weeks for those that would like to give it a try. Stop on down to Riverside Arena.

 Fall swim club

Fall swim club starts on Monday. To register go to https://www.teamunify.com/mnsst.

Swimmers of all levels are welcome for ages 6 and up. Participation in meets is not required, but is encouraged. Swim club is held at the Ellis pool.

 At the nature center

At 7 p.m. on Tuesday join Kelly Nail from the University of Minnesota Monarch Lab, as she tells the about the migration and history of the Monarch. This is a free program open to the public, sponsored by Austin Audubon and the Friends of the Jay C. Hormel Nature Center.

On Sunday, Sept. 20 there will be a “Walking Meditation” Class with Chris Anderson from 2 to 4 p.m. This is a free class and will be held rain or shine in the Ruby Rupner Auditorium and on the Nature Center trails. Please pre-register by Sept. 19.

The 11th Annual Hormel Nature Center 8K trail run and one-mile kids run will take place at 9 .m. on Saturday, Sept. 26. Register with Dr. Eric Overby: 507-437-3269 or pre-register online or print forms at www.hormelnaturecenter8k.org. Race day registration begins at 8 a.m.

Youth baseball

Yes you heard correctly. Youth baseball will hold try-outs on Sept. 26 for the 12 and under group with registration starting at noon at the North Todd Complex.

The tryout sessions will run from 1 to 3 p.m. and 4 to 6 p.m. to fill the teams for 12, 11 and 10-year-olds. On Sunday, Sept. 27 the 13 and 14-year-olds will start registration at 1 p.m. and run from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Tryout forms are located in our office, Games People Play and South Central Athlete.  Youth basketball

Kids can sign up for basketball which will begin Oct. 20 and run through Dec. 3 for those in kindergarten through sixth-grade.

This is a non-traveling league played at Banfield Elementary school to teach and practice skills needed to perfect your game. Skills will be practiced on Tuesdays for all grade levels and on Thursdays those in 2nd – 6th grades will put them to use in game situations.

The kindergarten and first-graders will continue to work on skills on Thursdays being introduced to games throughout the course of the program.

The fee to register is $20.The deadline to register is Oct. 16. Kindergarten and first-grade meet from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m.; second and third-graders meet 6:20 to 7:05 p.m. and fourth and sixth-graders meet 7:10 to 8 p.m.
