Clara E. (Helland) Gunnufson, 100, of Austin, Minnesota, died Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2015, at Sacred Heart Care Center in Austin.

Clara Elnora Odneson was born March 25, 1915, in Fillmore County, Minnesota, to Andrew and Isabel (Egge) Odneson. After attending country school, she graduated from Peterson High School in Peterson, Minnesota. Clara was united in marriage to Henry Helland in June of 1940 at Highland Prairie Lutheran Church in rural Peterson, where she was also baptized and confirmed. In 1942, the couple moved to Austin. Clara worked at Ellis Middle School in the lunchroom. Henry passed away in 1971. In 1979, Clara married Calman Gunnufson at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, where she was a member of the women’s circle. Calman passed away in 1995. Clara enjoyed embroidery and reading, and belonged to the Sons of Norway and the Mower County Senior Center.

Clara is survived by her daughters: Ione (Vern) Speer of Rochester, Minnesota, and Sharon (Robert) Huffman of Austin, Minnesota; her son Larry (Barbara) Helland of Rosemount, Minnesota; her daughter-in-law Beverly (Eddie) Attig of Joyce, Iowa; step-daughter Janice (David) Peterson of Apple Valley, Minnesota; step-daughter-in-law Linda Gunnufson of Missouri; 11 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents Andrew and Isabel Odneson; her first husband Henry Helland, her second husband Calman Gunnufson; her sons: Gerald and Harlan; her son-in-law Duane Highet; her stepson Wayne Gunnufson; two sisters and one brother.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 7, 2015, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin with Pastor Paul Lutter officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 6, 2015, at Worlein Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Memorials can be directed to St. Olaf Lutheran Church or recipient of donor’s choice. Services prearranged and performed by Worlein Funeral Home of Austin. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.worlein.com.
