Austin police are investigating three burglaries reported over the weekend.

Police Chief Brian Krueger said residents should be careful to lock their doors after several victims reported burglaries on Saturday and Sunday.

One victim at the 600 block of 21st Avenue Northwest reported someone took money from a top dresser drawer in a bedroom between Aug. 22 and 24.

Another victim was walking her dog before noon on Sunday when she saw three black juveniles run out of her home at the 1900 block of Sixth Avenue Southeast and down the street. The victim, who reported money stolen, had only walked about two to three city blocks away from her house, according to Krueger.

“She wasn’t gone that long,” he said.

The third victim called police just before 6 p.m. on Sunday to report someone had stolen an orange chainsaw in a gray case and about $400 worth of tools and a tool bag from his garage. He said he always keeps his garage locked, but a family member may have failed to close the door.

There are no suspects in that burglary, according to Krueger.

“We encourage people to lock their house even if they’re gone for a short time,” he said. “It’s just a little window of opportunity for these individuals to commit crimes.”
