After a little teamwork, Marcusen Park is now a much better practice facility than it was a year ago.

All of the baseball teams that use Marcusen Park recently pooled together for a $7,500 project that saw the purchase of a new batting shell, a few screens for the infield and some other various practice equipment.

The Marcusen Park Board, Lyle Legion, Pacelli Booster Club, Austin Post Legion Post 91, Austin VFW Post 1216, Austin Greyhounds and Austin Blue Sox all came together for the cause.

“It worked out real well. We kind of sorted it out by who used it the most,” Post 91 head coach Andy Swank said. “It was nice to have everybody kind of come together and that’s what we need to do with that ball park.”

All of the new equipment allows teams that use Marcusen Park to be able to practice quicker and safer.

“It just makes the field so much more useful,” Swank said. “To be able to have that equipment makes it 10 times more efficient. There’s also a lot of stuff that protects the field.”
