Irene was a stay-at-home mother until her children were grown; it was at that time that she became a nurse’s aide and was employed at Mom and Dad’s Nursing Home in Sioux Falls for 14 years.

She was a very busy lady who had several hobbies which included traveling with her husband Wesley, embroidery, reading, cards and board games, particularly Rummi Kub. Above all, she loved spending as much time as possible with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They brought her the most joy and they will always remember getting hand-stitched Christmas stockings made by Irene. She also enjoyed entertaining guests and families at her home; she was a great cook.

Irene was a long-time member at First Reformed Church in Sioux Falls. She was a very active member especially in senior fellowship.

Grateful for having shared her life are her children: Douglas (Joyce) Harms, Harrisburg, South Dakota, and Donna (John) Kluczny, Austin, Minnesota; grandchildren: Vicki (Chris) Sommerich, Lincoln, Nebraska, Kasha (Rock) Zeman, Eagan, Minnesota, Sr. Marie Josepha Kluczny (RSM), Alma, Michigan, and Thomas (Megan) Kluczny, Rochester, Minnesota; great-grandchildren: Eli and Ben Sommerich, and Bella, Nina, and Clara Zeman; and sister, Vivan Timmerman, Sioux Falls; and a host of relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Wesley Harms; son, David Harms; grandson, Jeffrey Harms; and sister, Ethel Bossman.

Funeral services for Irene will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 30, 2015, at First Reformed Church, 4800 Tomar Rd. in Sioux Falls. The family will be present to greet friends for visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 29, 2015, at First Reformed Church.
