Plans for the future: I plan on attending Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois, for four years and earning my degree there. I plan on majoring in international studies and minoring in women and gender studies. Later on I hope to join the Peace Corps or some type of international service and help people while also getting to know the world better.

Thoughts about my experience with the Rotary club: Rotary club made me feel confident in having a place and say in the community. There is nothing more empowering than knowing people have hope in my future and want to help me in any way. I have been so blessed in this opportunity and hope to one day become someone that has made my community proud.

Activities/Hobbies: Whether I am at the high school or out in the community I am an exceedingly involved student. My involvement can be displayed by my memberships in my school’s National Honors Society, student government, youth leadership, varsity soccer team, varsity baseball team, link crew, and orchestra. I have also spent a lot of my time in the past as a tutor for students who struggle with academics.

Awards/Recognitions: I have the great honor to say that I have achieved a lot throughout my high school career here in Austin. I have most recently received the Americanism Award from the American Legion, which is the highest honor that they have to offer to a high school student. I was also Kiwanis September Student of the Month, Minnesota Boys State City/County Treasurer/State Delegate, Big 9 Scholar Boys Soccer 2014, Spotlight on Scholarship (Soccer and Baseball two straight years), and National Academy of Future Physicians Nominee. This winter I participated in the Solo Ensemble Contest for orchestra where I received an excellent rating. Also a more “fun” award that I had received this year was being crowned Mr. Austin 2014.

Thoughts on your educational experience so far: My educational career has been truly amazing here at Austin High School. I was able to succeed academically as well as socially. I have really grown to be a very intelligent individual while being able to make great friendships with the students in my classes. I wouldn’t trade learning in Austin for the world and will be a Packer student deep down in my heart for the rest of my life.

Plans for the future: This coming school year I will be learning at the University of Minnesota Duluth. I will be studying pre-professionally on a track devoted to medicine. I plan on continuing to work extremely hard to succeed as a student, but I also plan on having a good time in college and making many new friends. I hope to be very involved in my higher education as well, where I will be a part of a pre-med club, intramural sports, and volunteer opportunities.

Thoughts about your experience with the Rotary club: I am much honored to be a student of the month for the Rotary club this year. I am very glad to be able to meet several new people through this club and become more educated on programs within the community. I met an elderly man that goes by the name “Chuck” who had a sense of humor that was so unique as well as the rest of the men at this table. Being able to meet people like this is what makes it all worth it and that is why I am so fortunate to be able to have this experience with the Rotary club. So I would like to end by saying thank you to the Rotary club for selecting me as their student of the month.
