Packer baseball team knocked off by Century

The Austin baseball team had its season come to an end when it lost 6-2 at Rochester Century in a Section 1AAA elimination game Wednesday.

The game was picked up from Monday’s rain out and Austin (9-13 overall) had a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third, but the Panthers (12-9 overall) took advantage of three Austin errors in the third and scored all six of their runs in that frame to go up 6-1 early on.

“They were very aggressive at the plate,” Austin head coach Chris Gogolewski said. “To their credit, they went up there swinging. But we struggled on the mound today. We got behind batters and they jumped all over it.”

After not winning a tournament game since 2009, the Packers picked up two postseason wins this season and Gogolewski is hoping that the Packers will have a solid season next year.

“Looking back at last year and being knocked out right away was a disappointment,” Gogolewski said. “To play as deep in the section tournament as we did this year shows that these boys have what it takes to play postseason ball.”
