The final totals are in for the annual postal carrier food drive.

The Mower County area came up short against Freeborn County in the National Association of Letter Carriers and National Rural Letter Carriers Association’s 22nd annual Stamp Out Hunger food drive.

Mower County raised about 13,701 pounds of food in the friendly competition, while Freeborn County collected 14,014 pounds of food. Yet each group raised far more food donations than normal for local food shelves.

“We were close, but not quite,” food drive coordinator Bob Rosel said. “Close enough that both towns benefited from the whole thing, without doubt.”
