George E. Gunion, 86, of Big Lake, Minnesota, passed away May 22, 2015, in St. Cloud, Minnesota, of an illness.

He was born April 24, 1929, to Ethel Pettit Gunion and Oscar Gunion. George married Sarah Durene Gunion Sept. 27,1952, in Sauk Centre, Minnesota.

He was retired from Gunion’s Painting & Decorating. He was a US Army veteran, Korean War, and was a member of the Assemblies of God Church Board and camp board, a Sunday school teacher and superintendent. George was the founder of Cedar Child Care Center in Austin. He enjoyed snowmobiling and camping.

George is survived by his loving wife Sally, Big Lake, Minnesota; Kandace (Bruce) DeGolier, Elk River, Minnesota, Kerry, St. Cloud, Minnesota, Kevin (Kathy) Alexandria, Minnesota, Kory (Brenda) Lakeland, Florida; four grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Ethel Gunion; sisters: Lorraine Evenson and Betty Hoekstra; brother Darwin Gunion.

The Minnesota Cremation Society is in charge of arrangements. Visitation will take place from 4 to 7 p.m., June 5, 2015, at the Oakwood Community Church, 13140 1st St. Becker, Minnesota. A service will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 6, 2015, at Lake Geneva Christian Center, 605 Birch Ave Alexandria, Minnesota.
