Presentation offers look at Philippine Insurrection

Published 7:01 am Sunday, April 26, 2015

At 2 pm. On Wednesday the Mower County Historical Society is back at the Mower County Senior Center.

This month’s presentation is on Minnesota soldiers’ experiences in the Spanish-American War and the Philippine Insurrection.

After the Spanish-American War (1898), the Philippines were given to the US. President McKinley felt Germany would take over the Philippines if the US did not. Many Filipinos wanted independence, and fighting began in 1899 and continued until 1902.

During the Philippine Insurrection, more than 125,000 American soldiers were sent to the Philippines, and over 4,000 deaths occurred during this conflict. This was also known as the Philippine-American War and the War of Philippine Independence. If you are interested in history you don’t want to miss it.

We look forward to seeing you at our many programs at the senior center. Don’t forget our coffee shop where every day you can have homemade soup for $1 and a sandwich for 50 cents. Tuesday, we are having everyone’s favorite tator tot hotdish for only $2.
