MESA, Ariz. — An ex-convict accused of a shooting rampage that left one person dead and five others wounded in suburban Phoenix has been booked into jail.

The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office says 41-year-old Ryan Giroux was booked Thursday on suspicion of murder and numerous other crimes, including armed robbery, auto theft, kidnapping and aggravated assault.

Mesa police arrested Giroux on Wednesday after an hourslong manhunt sparked by a motel shooting, carjacking and home invasion. Authorities say the rampage started with an argument at the motel.

It’s not immediately known when Giroux would appear before a judge, who would consider whether to appoint a lawyer to represent him.

Giroux has served several stints in prison since 1994.
