Elizabeth J. “Betty” Hoban, 63, of Mankato and formerly of Austin, died Thursday, March 12, 2015, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester.

Betty was born Dec. 18, 1951, in Austin to Bernard and Clara (Guile) Hoban. In 1971 Betty graduated from Austin High School, then Mankato State University, and Rasmussen Business College.

Betty worked at Young America Corporation and Hobby Lobby in Mankato where she lived since 1974. She volunteered at the library in Mankato and the Blue Earth County Historical Society. Betty was a member of Saint’s Peter and Paul Catholic Church.

Betty sent cards to people in her family whether they were sick or for birthdays. She also loved to send email to keep in touch with her family. Betty loved music, especially religious music. Her faith was very important to her.

Survivors include a sister, Marjorie (Joe) Sorenson, Austin, Minnesota; a brother, Richard Hoban, Omaha, Nebraska; a nephew, Brian (Mary) Sorenson, Henderson, Minnesota; a great niece and nephew, Olivia and Jacob Sorenson; many cousins.

She is preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Marie Hoban; a sister-in-law, Marcia Hoban.

A funeral mass will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. on Monday, March 16, 2015, at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father John Traufler officiating. There will be a 4 p.m. CCW Rosary and a 6:45 p.m. wake service on Sunday at Mayer Funeral Home where friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. and also one hour before the service at the church on Monday. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
